The Barrenjoey Women’s Classic
One of the largest amateur women’s golf tournaments in the Southern Hemisphere, the Barrenjoey Women’s Classic is played across six of Sydney’s stunning Northern Beaches golf clubs. Open to all women holding an Australian Golf Handicap, the event combines top-level competition with the chance to experience some of Sydney’s finest courses.
It is a Jean Derrin event for players with a GA Handicap under 14 and, from this year, is also part of the Women’s Senior Order of Merit for Divisions 1 and 2 competing in the Monday stroke events.
Alongside major trophies and prizes, the tournament also hosts a charity raffle, with proceeds supporting a nominated local cause on the Northern Beaches.
The History
The Barrenjoey Women’s Classic began in 1982, when a group of women came together to create a fun golf tournament that also showcased the beauty of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The inaugural event drew an impressive 300 competitors, setting the stage for what has become a much-loved tradition.
Today, the tournament is still proudly run by volunteers from the six host clubs — Bayview, Cromer, Long Reef, Mona Vale, Monash, and Wakehurst. The committee works tirelessly year-round, securing sponsorships, organising trophies, and coordinating the three-day event, ensuring its continued success and popularity.
The Format
The Barrenjoey Women’s Classic is held annually in the second week of February. The four-day tournament runs from Monday to Thursday:

- Tuesday: Foursomes
- Thursday: Teams event
- Thursday Evening: Major Presentation Night, a highlight of the week and open to all players
